Let’s convert the Kilroy HD in to a Tandem!
The new Kilroy HD is not only a great sit-inside fishing kayak, it can also be easily converted into a tandem for trips with the kid.
⚠️ Note: Jackson Kayak recommend this kayak to be paddled solo, so this conversion is a self mod. It is great for paddling with a kid but not with a second adult. Always maintain the maximum capacity of 450 lbs. Two high seating positions and two adults mean reduced stability.
What do you need for the conversion?
There are two ways to convert the Kilroy HD into a tandem. On the one hand, you can install a second seat pan and the appropriate seat. This works well, but the legroom in the rear seat is very limited (The rear seat must then be in the upper position). On the other hand, you can install a seat at the front and fix it with clips. I prefer this second solution! All you need is the KIHD/YPK/BIFD/BITANG Seat Kit 4.0 (SKU 55018).
There are several ways to attach the seat:
The Seat Fastener Kit (for example from the Coosa HD) is ideal for fixing the seat. I think this is the best and easiest solution.
You also need the two T-Bolts from the Fishing/Recreation Fastener Kit.
You can also use the Bite Rec/Bite Angler/Bite FD Seat Fastener Kit.
Or you improvise and look for your own solution to attach the seat. There are certainly many options here.
The Kilroy HD is a really versatile sit-inside fishing kayak and I love how fast it is as a tandem. It is also ideal for tours with the dog or multi-day expeditions where you have to take a lot of things with you. Test the boat, you will be amazed!
