Since we are all being homeschooled, I would like to start today’s class with a quick history lesson of Good Wave and my local whitewater course.

RushSouth was recently rebranded from Columbus Georgia Whitewater, to encompass all the area has to offer, in both Phenix City, Alabama and Columbus, Georgia. Just some of the fun includes; miles of walking paths following the river, fishing, art structures, disc golf, zip lines, ariel obstacle course, hammock garden, a playground, splash pad, rafting, SUP boarding, biking, picnic spots, concerts, open markets, and my favorite, kayaking.

Look At That 'Good Wave'

In 2012, city leaders removed two century old dams and created Wave Shaper on the Columbus, Georgia side of the Chattahoochee River. This extra flow of water helped create Good Wave, as we know and love it today. Our river runs 365 days a year with plenty of recreational activities to keep anyone happy. My dad started whitewater kayaking shortly after the breech; which I followed in his footsteps in mid 2015 and the rest of my family joined us a year later.

Good Wave is enjoyable at any level and creates a world class feature at 9K CFS. We are proud to say, it has been the host of the 2017 and 2018 USA Freestyle National Championships and continues to be the home of the annual Paddle South Whitewater Festival.

Look At That 'Good Wave'

From base flow of 850 CFS, all the way to 13K CFS, Good Wave has supported the personal whitewater progression of myself and my family of six. This feature has seen many of my first experiences of running a rapid in a whitewater kayak, learning to blunt, feeling the exhilaration of getting a hull to hull airscrew, teaching others to kayak, and winning my first competition. Our family believes it is one of the best park and play spots around. To find out for yourself, and get a glimpse of what this feature has to offer at the 9K CFS release, enjoy this short edit featuring my sister and I.
