Kyle Thomas

Kyle is an explorer, a sea kayaker, and a whitewater paddler.  He lives in Seattle, Washington with his wife Kathleen after spending years living and paddling in the Southeast U.S.  A user experience designer and researcher by trade, Kyle spends a lot of time thinking about usability, human-centered design, and how people interact with their environment.  These skills shape his instructional style and involvement in the paddling community.  He loves paddling, but he really loves helping others get on the water and engage with the outdoors.
After work and on days off, Kyle seeks to paddle at as many destinations as possible, leading him to have paddled in over 100 different locations in six different countries/territories.
Highlights:
– Surfing the Grey Dogs Tidal Race in Scotland
– Navigating the tricky rock gardens in Baja Mexico
– Exploring sea caves via sea kayak at the Isle of Skye
– Paddling the cascades of the beautiful Rio Claro in Chile

Kyle has donated a lot of his time to furthering the mission of the ACA, volunteering as the ACA State Director of South Carolina and of North Carolina.  He is an ACA Level 5 Advanced Whitewater Kayak Instructor, earned his BCU 3* award, and serves as a Senior Trip Leader and Instructor for Outdoor Recreation Georgia Tech’s whitewater and sea paddling instructional programs.
