Michael “Smiley” is an advocate for a variety of beginner to advanced paddlesport disciplines including recreational, touring, whitewater, kayak fishing, and stand up paddle boarding. He grew up in the Appalachians of East Kentucky’s Harlan County, the oldest of seven, no stranger to hard work, adversity, leadership, and outdoor adventures. Michael volunteer manages Paddle Adventures Unlimited at 4,000 members, with the support of the PAU leadership and membership. Paddle Adventures Unlimited hosts Nashville’s annual Cumberland River Paddlefest with over 2,000 attendees in 2015. Michael partners with federal, state, and local agencies, municipalities, organizations, watershed groups, & clubs, manufacturers, dealers, & outfitters promoting paddle sports, outdoor recreation, & and conservation of our waterways. Michael has been a Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association board of director’s member beginning 2011, ACA Instructor - L2 River Kayaking, – NOLS Wilderness First Aid certified, and CPR AED, First Aid Certified. Michael is a member of Jackson Kayak’s Exploration Team. Michael attends TSRA access meetings with committee chair Patty Shultz.
